Allegheny County Council is proud to present this Certificate of Recognition to The Honorable Sharene Shealey, of North Point Breeze, for her service to the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education. The Board is the policy-making body for the school district, which operates 65 schools with 5,180 full-time employees and serves 29,445 students with an operating budget of $533.6 million. Ms. Shealey was first elected to the board in 2009, representing District 1, and she has served as the board's first Vice President. In 2012, Ms. Shealey was elected as President of the Board. District 1 schools include: Pittsburgh Crescent Early Childhood Center; Pittsburgh Faison K-5; Pittsburgh Liberty K-5; Pittsburgh Lincoln Pre-K-5; Pittsburgh Montessori Pre-K-8; Pittsburgh Sterrett 6-8; Pittsburgh Obama 6-12; Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy 6-12; and the Pittsburgh Student Achievement Center. Ms. Shealey did not seek re-election in order to focus her time and energy on her three young children. We recognize Ms. Shealey for her dedicated service to the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education as President, and we thank her for her commitment to ensuring the best education possible for every student. We wish her well in all of her future endeavors.
