Proclamation thanking The Honorable Nick Vay for his many years of dedicated service to the Borough of Lincoln.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood and the community as a whole; individuals such as The Honorable Nick Vay, who has placed his stamp of character and hard work throughout the community, as both a public servant and strong leader; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1962, Mr. Vay, a lifelong resident of Lincoln Borough, a graduate of Glassport High School, and a retiree from USX Clairton Works, joined the Lincoln Borough Police Department as a part-time patrolman. In March 1964, Mr. Vay was promoted to Lieutenant, and three months later he was appointed Police Chief. Mr. Vay served as the Police Chief for 25 years until his retirement in May 1988; and
 
WHEREAS, from 1990 to 1997, Mr. Vay served as a member of Lincoln Borough Council, and on January 5, 1998, he became the Mayor of Lincoln Borough. Mr. Vay served 15 years as mayor until his retirement on December 31, 2013; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Vay is a Lifetime Member of the Lincoln Borough Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company (VFRC) #1.  From 1976 to 1989, he served as president of the Lincoln Borough VFRC and he served as their Fire Chief from 1990 to 2009;  
 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby recognizes The Honorable Nick Vay for his contributions to Lincoln Borough and to the enhancement of the well-being of the citizens of Lincoln and Allegheny County. Mr. Vay acted always in the best interests of his constituents, and we thank him for his 51 years of genuine and unwavering public service.
