Proclamation honoring Greater Pittsburgh Area Mad Dads for its dedication and commitment to the community.

WHEREAS, since May 6, 2006, the Greater Pittsburgh Area (GPA) Men Against Destruction ~ Defending Against Drugs and Social Disorder (MAD DADS), a nationally affiliated faith-based organization, has been preparing men to restore safe communities; and
 
WHEREAS, under the leadership of George C. Spencer, Sr., President/CEO of GPA MAD DADS since its inception, the group has mobilized, trained and guided men to impact the issues of illegal drugs, gangs and violence in Allegheny County through neighborhood street patrols and community based programs designed to maintain safer neighborhoods and communities; and
 
WHEREAS, in addition to implementing MAD DADS signature programs and neighborhood street patrols, GPA MAD DADS volunteers have served as chaperones, been a visible presence at community events and given support to anti-violence initiatives in Allegheny County including: B-PEP One Hood Anti-Violence Coalition, Brother-to-Brother Leadership Forum, FBI Adopt-A-School Initiative, The Tree of Hope Peace Crusades and Wilkinsburg Weed & Seed, just to name a few; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2007, the chapter was presented with a Good Works Award by the Concerned Citizens Community Creation Center (5C's Corporation) of Pittsburgh. In 2008, the Community Empowerment Association of Pittsburgh gave GPA MAD DADS their Nation Building Award and the Wilkinsburg Boys and Girls Club presented their Community Organization of the Year Award to the chapter.  In 2009, Mr. and Mrs. George and Vanessa Spencer were designated Grand Marshals of the Wilkinsburg Holiday Parade and were recognized for their efforts in the community;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby honor the Greater Pittsburgh Area Men Against Destruction ~ Defending Against Drugs and Social Disorder for its dedication and commitment to serving the community.
