Proclamation honoring Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille for receiving Amen Corner's Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Ronald D. Castille dutifully and honorably served as the Chief Justice of Pennsylvania, presiding over Pennsylvania's highest court, from January 14, 2008 until March 16, 2014; and
 
      WHEREAS, Chief Justice Castille is a 1966 graduate of Auburn University.  Following graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam where he served as a platoon commander in 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines.  On March 16, 1967, while conducting a mission with his company in Quang Ngai Province, he was seriously wounded by enemy fire and lost his right leg as a result; and
 
      WHEREAS, Chief Justice Castille is the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V", two (2) Purple Heart Medals, the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross, and the Naval Unit and U.S. Presidential Unit Citations; and
 
      WHEREAS, Chief Justice Castille graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1971. In 1986 he was elected District Attorney of Philadelphia and served until 1991. He was a civil litigator for Reed, Smith, Shaw & McClay until 1993 when he has elected to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania; and
 
      WHEREAS, Chief Justice Castille, recipient of many awards and honors for his distinguished public service, is credited for reorganizing the court system in Philadelphia, for strengthening and improving the judicial discipline system, and for encouraging lawyers to render public interest and legal services for the indigent;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby commend the Honorable Ronald D. Castille for receiving the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence from Amen Corner during the group's 54th Annual Judicial Reception.
