Proclamation honoring in memoriam Captain Sean Michael Ruane, from Kennedy Township, who paid the ultimate sacrifice on January 7, 2014 while instructing a U.S. Air Force Helicopter Aircrew on a Combat Search and Rescue mission.

WHEREAS, Captain Sean Michael Ruane gave full measure of devotion in service to his country on January 7, 2014 while instructing a U.S. Air Force helicopter aircrew on a combat search-and-rescue mission along the Norfolk coast of England, where he was stationed at Royal Air Force base in Lakenheath, Suffolk County; and

WHEREAS, Captain Ruane, from Kennedy Township, graduated in 2000 from Montour High School and in 2005 from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force and in 2007 officially became a U.S. Air Force Pilot. He learned to pilot the HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter and tactics that would enable him to save lives in combat as part of the 41st Rescue Squadron; and

WHEREAS, Captain Ruane served three tours in Iraq and two tours in Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, Captain Ruane quickly advanced in the U.S. Air Force and was promoted most recently as Operations Group Executive Officer; he led his formation in combat while deployed and in training while at home, all the while working on a master’s degree in American History; and

WHEREAS, Captain Ruane received 17 Air Medals, a Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, the Air Force Combat Action Medal, two Meritorious Unit Awards, four Outstanding Unit Awards with a Valor device, five Expeditionary Service Ribbons with Gold Border, two Iraq Campaign Medals, two Afghanistan Campaign Medals, and the Small Arms Expert (Rifle) Ribbon;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby honor in memoriam Captain Sean M. Ruane for his service to our country and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. He will forever be reme...
