Certificates of Achievement awarded to the Brookline Regional Catholic School girls' basketball team for winning the 2014 Girls' Junior Varsity Diocesan Championship.

Body...

      WHEREAS, since 1996, Brookline Regional Catholic (B.R.C.) School has provided a faith-based education to students from St. Piux X, Resurrection, and Our Lady of Loreto, as well as the surrounding areas; and

      WHEREAS, the basketball tradition at Resurrection and Our Lady of Loreto is legendary; these schools produced numerous diocesan and state champions, as well as Olympic gold medalist, Suzie McConnell-Serio; and

      WHEREAS, since the school's 1996 merger, no B.R.C. team, in any sport, has won a diocesan championship, until this year; the 2014 B.R.C. girls' junior varsity basketball team swept through the competition and finished as the first undefeated Class B diocesan champion in their school's history; and

      WHEREAS, aside from sweeping their section against opponents such as St. Anne's, Madonna Regional Catholic, JFK, Holy Child and St. Sylvester's, this team played a rigorous non-section schedule against Class A diocesan and public schools; B.R.C. obtained wins over Holy Trinity, St. Bernard's, Bethel Park, West Mifflin, perennial powerhouse St. Gabriel's, and also the eventual Class A diocesan champion St. Bonaventure;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the 2014 Brookline Regional Catholic School girls' junior varsity basketball team for winning the 2014 Pittsburgh Class B Diocesan Girls' Basketball Championship. The team has set a positive example of excellence for all of Allegheny County, continuing evidence that this is the County of Champions.
