This Certificate of Recognition is presented to Ms. Dolores Ardelia Redwood upon the momentous occasion of her 100th birthday. Ms. Redwood was born on January 19, 1915 in Lynchburg, Virginia, the seventh of William J. Thompson and Ardelia Payne's eight children. The family grew up in Homestead, and Ms. Redwood graduated from Homestead High School with high honors in 1932 and received a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, which she attended in 1932-34. She attended many Homestead Grays games at Forbes Field and recalls dancing with Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell and other players when they were in town. She joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority in 1934 and later attended Grace Martin Business School, which merged into Duff's Business School. She married Carl E. Redwood, Sr. and had two children, the late Janet L. Thompson and Carl E. Redwood, Jr. Ms. Redwood has two beloved grandsons. Ms. Redwood has lived in her house in Lincoln-Lemington for 49 years and has been a member of Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she is a deacon, for 60 years. She was a member and officer of the Chadwick Civic League and Just Us Mothers and one of the incorporators of the Ladies Auxiliary, Inc., which supports the Lemington Home for the Aged.  We honor Ms. Redwood for her longevity, which can be attributed to her positive outlook on life, and we join with her family and friends as she celebrates her 100th birthday.
