Proclamation recognizing the 2014-2015 Duquesne Women's Basketball Team for their dedication in the classroom and on the court.

WHEREAS, since 1984, Duquesne University's Women's Basketball Team, nicknamed the Dukes, has played in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1/Atlantic 10 Conference; and
WHEREAS, the Duquesne Dukes Women's Basketball Team had six straight 20-win seasons which places the team in an elite category since only 21 teams out of 347 Division 1 teams have accomplished such a feat; and
WHEREAS, seven players that have played under Dukes head coach Dan Burt have signed professional contracts overseas, including Vanessa Abel~Germany, Jocelyn Floyd~Germany, Alex Gensler~Hungary, Kristi Little~Hungary, Diana Voynova~Bulgaria and Italy, Wumi Agunbiade~Romania and Orsi Szecsi~Hungary; and
WHEREAS, the 2014-2015 Duquesne Women's Basketball roster includes talented local student-athletes as well as talented student-athletes from Hungary, Norway and Canada;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize the 2014-2015 Duquesne Women's Basketball Team for their dedication in the classroom and on the court. The team has set a positive example of excellence for all of Allegheny County, continuing evidence that this is the County of Champions.
