Proclamation congratulating Upper St. Clair High School students, Gaurav Bhushan, Michael Nastac, Yein Park, Akshay Prasadan, Nymisha Rameswarapu, Vidhi Shah, and team advisor Ms. Pat Palazzolo, for winning the Verizon Innovative App Challenge and for being named "2015 Best in the Nation."

WHEREAS, on February 3, 2015, a team of six 11th-graders from Upper St. Clair High School, learned that they were among eight national winners of the Verizon Innovative App Challenge, which asks students to use their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) knowledge, their ingenuity, and their creativity to develop concepts for mobile applications that address needs or problems in their communities or schools; and
WHEREAS, the team from Upper St. Clair High School created the app "A Look Inside" which allows students to explore the inner workings of different inventions and machines through virtual take-apart system; and
WHEREAS, the students will work with app development instructors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on programming the app and making it available to download, and the team has been invited to present their app at the 2015 Technology Student Association National Conference in Dallas, Texas this summer, courtesy of Verizon; and
WHEREAS, as a result of winning the regional and national mobile app design competitions, the team earned a $20,000 cash grant for their school from the Verizon Foundation and each student on the team received a Samsung Galaxy Tablet courtesy of Samsung Telecommunications America;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the following Upper St. Clair High School students, Gaurav Bhushan, Michael Nastac, Yein Park, Akshay Prasadan, Nymisha Rameswarapu, Vidhi Shah, and team advisor Ms. Pat Palazzolo, for winning the Verizon Innovative App Challenge and for being named "2015 Best in the Nation."
