Proclamation congratulating Dr. Edward M. Sorr, ophthalmologist and first associate physician of the Everett & Hurite Ophthalmic Association, upon the occasion of his retirement after 40 years of dedicated service to the community.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood and the community as a whole; individuals such as Dr. Edward M. Sorr, an ophthalmologist and retina specialist, who has placed his stamp of character and hard work throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sorr, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1963, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1967; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sorr completed his professional training in ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital, a non-profit eye clinic and hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, from 1968 to 1970, Dr. Sorr honorably served as a member of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (U.S.P.H.S.) in Lexington, Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sorr joined Everett & Hurite Ophthalmic Association, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as its first associate physician in 1975; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sorr has a distinguished reputation as an expert in disorders of the retina and vitreous, and his concern for his patients has been demonstrated by his ability to communicate complex clinical problems on a lay level; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sorr will retire from Everett & Hurite Ophthalmic Association on April 30, 2015 after 40 years of dedicated service to his patients;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby commends and extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Edward M. Sorr for his many years of dedicated service to the residents of Allegheny County, and we wish him well upon the occasion of his retirement.
