Proclamations honoring Gary Rigdon, member of the Council of Friends of North Park and volunteer Robert Habegger for their significant contributions to North Park.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed to have citizens, such as Mr. Robert Habegger, Volunteer in Marketing & Communications for the Friends of North Park, and Mr. Gary Rigdon, Chairman of the Friends of North Park, dedicated to providing stewardship and advocacy for our County parks; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Habegger, Mr. Rigdon and the Friends of North Park work tirelessly to promote volunteerism, protect and preserve North Park’s natural heritage, educate citizens about how to be responsible environmental stewards, raise funds for special projects, and provide a forum for public discussion on matters important to park users; and

WHEREAS, biannually, the Friends of North Park organizes volunteers for litter cleanup, dump removal, invasive plant species control, and tree planting; and

WHEREAS, in 2014, the Friends of North Park had several notable projects including fundraising for the purchase of the 75-acre Irwin Run Conservation Area adjacent to the park by the Allegheny Land Trust; fundraising for construction of the Pfundstein Trail; the installation of 17 receptacles around North Park Lake used for the proper disposal of fishing line; the preparation of a Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) submission to the National Park Service; and the successful application and adoption of Tennis Court Road; and

WHEREAS, the Friends of North Park has established and cultivated partnerships with the following groups: Allegheny County Parks Department, Allegheny County Parks Foundation, North Area Environmental Council, Allegheny Land Trust, Go Ape! Zip Line & Treetop Adventure, Latodami Nature Center, L.L. Bean, Inc., Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group, and Venture Outdoors, just to name a few; and
