This Certificate of Achievement is awarded to Ms. Katlyn McElhinny, a 7th grade student at West Mifflin Area Middle School, in recognition of winning the Top Blue Ribbon in the 2015 Edmentum Spring Academic Sprints Contest. Ms. McElhinny participated in the web-based standards mastery program Study Island, where students can test themselves in language arts, math and science. Study Island recognized Ms. McElhinny for being the contest's national top blue ribbon earner with 448. She earned the title by correctly answering 87 percent of 5,305 questions during the weeklong event. Ms. McElhinny, who was competing against nearly 135,000 students nationwide, earned the same distinction in a similar contest last fall. Along with the title, Ms. McElhinny received a $100 Amazon gift card in each contest win. Ms. Katlyn McElhinny has set a high standard of commitment and fervor that the youth of our great county may follow, and she serves as an inspiration to this Council and to the citizens of Allegheny County.
