Allegheny County Council is proud to present this Certificate of Recognition to Sergeant Carl A. Funtal upon the occasion of his retirement from the Shaler Township Police Department on March 7, 2015 after 25 years of dedicated service. Shortly after being hired in 1990, Officer Funtal began working in the Traffic Division, and in 2009, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sgt. Funtal, a certified accident reconstruction expert, was one of the founding members of the modern Shaler Township motorcycle officers program. In 2001, he created the Tickets-n-Stuff safety program.  Tickets-n-Stuff was the first program that rewarded safe driving exhibited by young drivers, while allowing individuals who had been cited for infractions the opportunity to have the citation dismissed. Sgt. Funtal has instilled the importance of safe driving to countless young drivers through his "Boot Camp."  Sgt. Funtal has been involved with many school programs in the Shaler Area School District, including 911 training for all of the district's kindergarten children.  Sgt. Funtal's long and distinguished service with the Shaler Township Police Department deserves the accolades of our citizenry. This Council wishes Sgt. Funtal health and happiness in his retirement, and we join with his family and friends in celebrating this momentous occasion.
