Proclamation congratulating the Pleasant Hills Public Library on the momentous occasion of its 70th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals and organizations, such as the Pleasant Hills Public Library, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood and the community as a whole; and
WHEREAS, in 1944, before the Borough of Pleasant Hills was incorporated, a few residents wanted a local place where they could borrow books, learn and gather. They found space on the second floor of a fire hall, and opened the Pleasant Hills Public Library on November 29, 1945, with one of the founders, Ina Hubbs, as the first director; and
WHEREAS, during 2015, a celebration of the Pleasant Hills Public Library's 70th anniversary will take place each month with special programs designed to reinforce the library's earliest goals and its future mission: "By 2018, the Pleasant Hills Public Library will be our community's gateway for information, inspiration and intellectual pursuits through multimedia resources, expert staff and high-quality programs that involve patrons, community partners and volunteers in a welcoming environment;" and
WHEREAS, on November 7, 2015, the library will hold a special wine-tasting event to honor the decades and the library's volunteers since its founding;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Pleasant Hills Public Library on the momentous occasion of its 70th Anniversary. The library's commitment to the neighborhood and its citizens serves as an inspiration to us all, and we offer our sincerest thanks to all present and former staff members, volunteers and board members for their dedication and professionalism.
