Proclamation congratulating the United Way of Allegheny County 2015 "Be There" Awardees.
 
Body...
 
WHEREAS, the "Be There" campaign is a research-based, multimedia initiative designed to inspire parents to become more involved in their children's education in order to increase school attendance rates; and
 
WHEREAS, educators, mentors and parents throughout Allegheny County have pledged their support for the "Be There" campaign and their efforts have had lasting impacts on the lives and attendance records of school children throughout Allegheny County; and
 
WHEREAS, on May 14, 2015, the United Way of Allegheny County will host the 2nd Annual Be There Awards ceremony at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater to honor the following community providers, school staff, volunteers and partners:
 
Community Providers: Stacey Laurie & Tammie Jones, Pittsburgh Langley 6-8 Afterschool Academy; Kaitlyn Knykwest, Homeless Children's Education Fund; Dave Breingan, Lawrenceville United School
 
School Staff: South Allegheny Bee There Committee; Lana Shaftic, MSW, Pittsburgh Schiller 6-8
 
Volunteers: Debra Smallwood; Donna Nyambe; Lisa Gonzalez
 
Partner Champions: Allies for Children; University of Pittsburgh Office of Child Development;  
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate and thank the "Be There" Awardees for putting the needs and concerns of Allegheny County's school children first and foremost in their lives.
