WHEREAS, South Fayette High School students Eishan Ashwat, Brooke Ley, Brennan McCann, Cara Price and Jackie Witwicki, along with Team Advisor Brian Garlick, took 1st place in the Pennsylvania Governor's STEM Competition held on May 29, 2015 at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, earning praise and recognition from Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf; and
WHEREAS, the academically competitive student team, along with school, community and business advisors and partners, worked tirelessly from October to mid-February, and captured 1st place out of 21 teams at the regional finals held on February 18, 2015 at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit in Homestead, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, led by South Fayette High School Technology Education teacher, Brian Garlick, the group of five students created an innovative product, the Life-Safer Innovations Walker, designed to bring additional safety measures to those needing ambulatory aids, while also providing enhanced aesthetics to such devices; and
WHEREAS, the students overcame nearly 150 teams from across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that originally entered the competition, and each student was awarded a $2,000 scholarship to use towards their college education;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate South Fayette High School students Eishan Ashwat, Brooke Ley, Brennan McCann, Cara Price and Jackie Witwicki and Team Advisor Brian Garlick for earning 1st Place in the Pennsylvania Governor's STEM Competition.
