Proclamation congratulating Ms. Joan Schubert upon the occasion of her retirement after 56 years of dedicated service as a librarian to the Baldwin Whitehall School District.

WHEREAS, librarian Ms. Joan Schubert has retired after 56 years of dedicated service to the Baldwin-Whitehall School District; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Schubert earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in reading, and a second master’s degree in library science from the University of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Schubert began her career as a second-grade teacher at McAnnulty Elementary, and within the Baldwin-Whitehall School District, Ms. Schubert held a variety of positions and opened or closed 23 libraries in the district; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Schubert worked in the libraries at McAnnulty, Skyline, Highlands, Spliter, Union, Provost, McGibney, Overlook, Sickman, Rolling Hills, Baldwin High School, Oakleaf, Lafferty Whitehall Elementary, Whitehall Middle School, Wallace Intermediate and for the last 30 years at Paynter Elementary; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Schubert received the Baldwin-Whitehall School District’s “Champions of Character” award for her work at Paynter Elementary this year;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Ms. Joan Schubert upon the occasion of her retirement after her long and distinguished service to the Baldwin-Whitehall School District, and this Council wishes her health and happiness upon this momentous occasion.
