Title: Motion of the Council of Allegheny County expressing the Sense of the Council of Allegheny County urging the Chief Executive, County Manager and Allegheny County Parks Department, the North Park Friends of the Park, and the Allegheny County Parks Foundation to work cooperatively to identify potential partners with whom to pursue sponsorship and honorary naming rights agreements relating to the trails located within North Park, with particular emphasis on the Lake Shore Loop.

Motion of the Council of Allegheny County expressing the Sense of the Council of Allegheny County urging the Chief Executive, County Manager and Allegheny County Parks Department, the North Park Friends of the Park, and the Allegheny County Parks Foundation to work cooperatively to identify potential partners with whom to pursue sponsorship and honorary naming rights agreements relating to the trails located within North Park, with particular emphasis on the Lake Shore Loop.

WHEREAS, North Park is comprised of 3,075 acres located in Hampton, McCandless and Pine Townships; and

WHEREAS, North Park has been the site of extensive recent public/private partnerships between the County and private ventures such as the Over the Bar Bicycle Café and the Go Ape Treetop Adventure, intended to enhance the public's enjoyment of the park; and

WHEREAS, the public's patronage of these venues, together with the more traditional uses of the park as a venue for picnics, family reunions, celebrations, exercise, and other activities, has increased attendance at the park, and has simultaneously increased the public's usage of the approximately 43 of miles of blazed trails within North Park, and most particularly the five mile Lake Shore Loop; and

WHEREAS, it is the judgment of Council that the usage of the North Park trails may render them attractive to entities or individuals interested in acquiring sponsorship or honorary naming rights; and

WHEREAS, it is further the judgment of Council that the County's naming rights ordinance, codified within Article 705 of the Administrative Code of Allegheny County, provides authority to the Chief Executive, County Manager, and others to pursue the award of naming rights in these circumstances, and that other stakeholders such as the Friends of North Park and Allegheny County Parks Foundation may be well-positioned to offer valuable assistance with and insight into the potential award of such naming rights;
