Proclamation celebrating the PicklesBURGH Festival produced by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership on July 17-18, 2015 on the Rachel Carson Bridge.

Body...

WHEREAS, on July 17-18, 2015, on the Rachel Carson Bridge (9th Street Bridge), the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP) will host a new, annual festival named PicklesBURGH showcasing Downtown Pittsburgh’s riverfront and celebrating all things pickled; and

WHEREAS, the PicklesBURGHFestival will feature international dishes, handcrafted foods and artisan cocktails with pickled ingredients from local restaurants; an embrace of the farm-to-table movement and the rising popularity of canning; informative how-to demonstrations and author discussions; event memorabilia and pickle-themed gifts; pickle-juice drinking contests and live entertainment on the BNY Mellon Stage; and

WHEREAS, a giant Heinz pickle balloon will fly over the Rachel Carson Bridge and serve as a reminder of Pittsburgh’s proud pickle roots.  The presenting sponsor of the PicklesBURGHFestival, The Heinz Company, was founded in Sharpsburg in 1869, and popular tours of the H.J. Heinz factory always ended with a “Pickle Pin,” one of Pittsburgh’s most beloved collectibles; and

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership has designed the PicklesBURGHFestival to appeal to a wide audience from the Greater Pittsburgh community;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby thank the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership for creating the PicklesBURGHFestival, and we encourage the residents of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County to visit and celebrate the PicklesBURGHFestival.
