Proclamation thanking the 1,400 certified tree tenders across Pittsburgh and Allegheny County during the inaugural Tree Tender Symposium on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the August Wilson Center.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, Tree Pittsburgh’s mission is to protect and restore Pittsburgh’s urban forest through community tree planting and care, education, and advocacy; and

 

WHEREAS, Tree Pittsburgh’s Tree Tenders program offers training and certification that empowers concerned residents to make dramatic strides towards restoring and caring for the tree canopy in their communities. The acclaimed program is at the forefront of an urban tree movement across the country and is one of the oldest, most respected volunteer urban-tree care programs; and

 

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is home to over 1,400 registered Tree Tenders, donating thousands of hours of time to care for city and county public trees, pruning, weeding and mulching them throughout the year; and

 

WHEREAS, on Saturday, July 18, 2015, Tree Pittsburgh will host its first ever Tree Tender Symposium at the August Wilson Center in Downtown Pittsburgh; and

 

WHEREAS, the Symposium will provide an opportunity for sharing best practices for connecting neighbors and igniting a passion for trees in every community, and Dr. Neil Hendrickson, leading national forestry researcher, will share his insight with the group;

 

 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize and thank all of the dedicated Tree Tenders for protecting and maintaining our community trees, and we commend Tree Pittsburgh for inspiring and engaging citizens to maintain, plant and protect trees in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
