Proclamation honoring in memoriam the dedicated service of Heidelberg Police Canine Officer Rocky.

WHEREAS, on June 29, 2015, Canine Officer Rocky, Heidelberg Borough’s beloved police dog, an 8-year-old German shepherd, lost his battle with cancer; and
WHEREAS, K9 Officer Rocky graduated from the City of Pittsburgh K9 Academy with his handler Sergeant Dennis Dixon, and in 2008 he joined the Heidelberg Police Department, having served with honor, dignity and valor; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his police work in Heidelberg, K9 Rocky’s expertise was also utilized throughout Allegheny County as part of a mutual aid agreement; and
WHEREAS, K9 Officer Rocky was loyal, loving and devoted to protecting our communities and safeguarding the citizens of Heidelberg and Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, K9 Officer Rocky was Sgt. Dixon’s partner, his friend, and his protector, and he was loved by his partner, family, fellow officers, and the community; and
WHEREAS, Rocky is survived by his partner Sgt. Dennis Dixon, with whom he worked and resided, Sgt. Dennis Dixon’s wife, and their three children;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize and honor in memoriam the remarkable service of Heidelberg Borough Police K9 Officer Rocky and our condolences go out to the Dixon family, the Heidelberg Police Department and the community.

Trust in me my friend, for I am your comrade. I will protect you with my last breath. When all others have left you and the loneliness of the night closes in, I will be at your side. Together we will conquer all obstacles and search out those who might wish to harm others.
All I ask of you is compassion, the caring touch of your hands. It is for you I will unselfishly give my life and spend my nights unrested. Although our days together may be marked by the passing of the seasons, know that each day at your side is my reward. My days are measured by the coming of your footsteps. I anticipate them at the opening of the door.
You are the voice when I am ill. The voice of authority over me when I have done wrong, do not chastise me unduly for I am your right arm, the sword at your side. I attempt to do only what you bid of me. I seek only to please you and remain in your favor.
Together you and I shall experience a bond only those like you will understand. When others see us together their envy will be measured by their disdain. I will quietly listen to you and pass no judgment. Nor will your spoken words be repeated.
I will remain ever silent, ever vigilant, and ever loyal. And when our time together is done and you move on in the world, remember me with kind thoughts and tales. For a time we were unbeatable/nothing passed among us undetected. If we should ever meet again on another field I will gladly take up your fight.
