Proclamation congratulating SS. Simon & Jude Parish of Scott Township upon the occasion of its 60th anniversary.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, on June 16th, 1955 the Saints Simon and Jude Parish in Scott Township was established by a decree of Bishop John F. Deardon; and

 

WHEREAS, after his appointment as first pastor of the church, Reverend Ignatius Koller and parishioners worked tirelessly to  clear the land where the church would sit, dedicating the first building on February 11, 1956; and

 

WHEREAS, on December 8, 1967 the final Mass was served at the original structure and work began on an enlarged building to accommodate the ever expanding Church family; and

 

WHEREAS, the more than 4,000 parishioners of Saints Simon and Jude Parish are served from areas all over Allegheny County including Scott Township, Carnegie, Greentree, Mt. Lebanon and the City of Pittsburgh; and

 

WHEREAS, the celebration of the Parish’s 60th Anniversary was held on Saturday, June 13, with Bishop David Zubik in attendance for the festivities;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate and thank the Saints Simon and Jude Parish in Scott Township for its outstanding service to the community and for its unparalleled service to the children of our community. Furthermore this Council wishes the Parish and its members the best of luck going into the future.
