Proclamation congratulating the Pittsburgh Passion Women’s Football Team for winning the 2015 Independent Women’s Football League World Championship.

Body

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Passion Women’s Full-Contact Football Team was formed in March 2002 with the mission of teaching life lessons through sport; and

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Passion competes in the Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL) in the Mid-Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, playing an 8 game regular season schedule, and leading the league in game day attendance; and

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Passion believes that the privilege of participating in a sport provides the opportunity to cultivate core values of teamwork, honesty, responsibility, leadership, integrity, sacrifice, hard work, loyalty, dedication and courage; and

WHEREAS, all Pittsburgh Passion players work full-time jobs, practicing several times per week, and still the team is deeply active in the community year-round, participating in over 300 charitable events and having formed the Passion For Life Foundation, which supports the DREAMS mentoring program for young girls in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, in addition to winning four Divisional Championships, the Pittsburgh Passion earned the 2007 National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) Championship and the 2014 IWFL World Championship; and

WHEREAS, on Saturday, July 25, 2015, the Pittsburgh Passion traveled to Rock Hill, South Carolina and captured their second consecutive IWFL World Championship. The team defeated the Utah Falconz 41-37 and finished their second season in a row undefeated;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council, along with Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, does hereby congratulate the Pittsburgh Passion Women’s Football Team for winning the 2015 Independent Women’s Football League World Championship, their 2nd consecutive World Championship, and we commend the management, players and coaches of the Pittsburg...
