Proclamation congratulating Meghan Klingenberg, a native of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, for winning the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Championship as a member of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, on July 5, 2015, Meghan Elizabeth Klingenberg, one of the best defensive soccer players in the world, won the 2015 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Women’s World Cup, as a member of the United States Women’s National Soccer Team; and

 

WHEREAS, Meghan, a native of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, was the captain of the Pine-Richland High School girls’ soccer team and led the team to a PIAA championship in 2005. She was selected as a Parade magazine high school All-American, and earned two NCAA championships for the Tar Heels at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  As a senior in 2010, she was named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and was first-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference; and

 

WHEREAS, prior to her selection by the Houston Dash in the 2014 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) expansion draft, Meghan played professional soccer for Tyresö FF (2012-2014), Western New York Flash (2012), Boston Breakers (2011), and magicJack (2011); and

 

WHEREAS, Meghan has played for the U.S. women’s national soccer team at the U-16, U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels. She has been with the senior team since 2011 and was an alternate for the 2012 London Summer Olympic team;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Meghan Klingenberg, 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion, and we commend her for her indelible contributions to Allegheny County’s long legacy of sports champions.
