Proclamation congratulating Trax Farms, Inc. upon the momentous occasion of its 150th anniversary.

WHEREAS, family farms are a vital part of U.S. agricultural and rural life, and their activities add significantly to the economic and social strength of communities everywhere; and
WHEREAS, in the summer of 1865, Mr. Ludwig Trax bought 25 acres of land in southern Allegheny County and started a small farm. For over six generations, the Trax family has passed down the importance of quality and tradition offering customers the best fruits and vegetables they can grow at Trax Farms in the South Hills; and
WHEREAS, today, Trax Farms tills nearly 120 acres of land and operates an 85,000 square foot retail farm market and garden center with 15 different departments, and depending on the season, employs between 75 to 180 full-time workers; and
WHEREAS, for 150 years, Trax Farms has provided the public with a convenient, fresh source for high quality fruits, vegetables, homemade baked goods and more, including fine merchandise in their country store, florals and gifts, and Christmas shop;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Trax family upon the momentous occasion of the 150th Anniversary of Trax Farms, and we thank Trax Farms for contributing towards the health and prosperity of our community.
