Proclamation recognizing Moon Area High School Senior, Mr. Stephen Englert, Jr. for creating a basketball tournament at the South Park Fairgrounds to benefit the American Heart Association and declaring Saturday, September 12, 2015 to be “Hoops, HEART ‘n’ Heroes Day” in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, Stephen Englert, Jr., a senior at Moon Area High School, has been playing recreational basketball since the third grade and now serves as a referee for those games; and
WHEREAS, Stephen created “Hoops HEART ‘n’ Heroes!” a 3 on 3 basketball tournament for his community service project for his 2015-2016 senior project topic of Sports Management; and
WHEREAS, all of the proceeds from Hoops HEART ‘n’ Heroes will benefit the American Heart Association (AHA) for Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) in athletes; and
WHEREAS, the tournament will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the South Park Fairgrounds and will feature a variety of basketball clinics hosted by local and national basketball heroes, basketball contests and challenges, and it will bring families and friends together for a fun day of basketball and activities, all for a good cause;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby thank Stephen Englert, Jr. for creating an event that will raise funds to benefit the American Heart Association, and we hereby declare Saturday, September 12, 2015 to be “Hoops, HEART ‘n’ Heroes Day” in Allegheny County.
