Proclamation congratulating the Borough of Chalfant as it celebrates 100 years as a community.

Body...

WHEREAS, in 1914, a group of Wilkins Township residents presented a petition to the Quarter Sessions Court of Allegheny County for the incorporation of Chalfant Village into a borough; the Court decreed Chalfant as a borough on December 14, 1914; it’s population at the time was 500; and

WHEREAS, the borough was named after Mr. Henry Chalfant, who settled in the area in 1827 and amassed an estate of 102 acres.  He was a famous pioneer, an innkeeper, and was the first postmaster in the Turtle Creek Valley area.  He was well known in Pittsburgh circles as an industrial innovator and philanthropist, and the name Chalfant is also prominently recognized at the Duquesne Club, to which Mr. Chalfant was one of the founders; and

WHEREAS, the municipality has since been blessed with a succession of dedicated civic leaders whose contributions have helped it to grow and flourish for the past hundred years; and

WHEREAS, today, Chalfant Borough covers 0.2 square miles and has a population of 825; the borough is known for its close-knit community, and we are excited to join with borough officials this year to celebrate this wonderful municipality’s 100th anniversary; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Chalfant Borough as it celebrates 100 years as a community, and we wish the borough and its residents continued success in the future.
