Proclamation honoring the life, memory and legacy of The Honorable Barbara Daly Danko and extending condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.

Body...

WHEREAS, on May 6, 2015, The Honorable Barbara Daly Danko, beloved wife, mother and respected politician, passed away from a cancer-related illness in her Regent Square home, surrounded by family; and

WHEREAS, a native of Washington, D.C., Ms. Daly Danko earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, a master’s degree from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin and an accounting certificate from Robert Morris University; and

WHEREAS, for decades, Ms. Daly Danko taught political science at the Community College of Allegheny County and the University of Pittsburgh, where she mentored and inspired countless students; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Daly Danko was a fixture in the Democratic Party in Pittsburgh’s East End, serving as a committee member and chair of the 14th Ward until 2011, when she was appointed to Allegheny County Council, representing the 11th District. Ms. Daly Danko’s name remained on the May 19, 2015 primary election ballot, and because of her community presence, independence and integrity, she was re-elected in memoriam by the members of Allegheny County Council District 11; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Daly Danko served on the Allegheny County Human Relations Commission and the Local Government Academy board of directors. Ms. Daly Danko, a member of St. Bede Parish, worked tirelessly and lovingly for the good of her family, friends and community, supporting those in need, providing a clear, strong voice for the disenfranchised, and working to secure a better quality of life for all; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Daly Danko was an avid softball player, and on September 13, 2015 at Frick Park, the Friends of Barbara Daly Danko hosted a picnic and softball game in memory of Barbara;
