Proclamation honoring in memoriam Areta Kalogeras, dedicated, inspirational director of the North Hills High School Marching Band.

WHEREAS, after battling cancer, Areta “Rita” Kalogeras, passed from this life on January 18, 2015 at the age of 61; and
WHEREAS, Areta Kalogeras of Ross Township, was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania and became passionate for music at a young age, studying piano and violin; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from Edinboro University, Ms. Kalogeras taught in the North Hills School District for 33 years and directed the marching band for almost 20 years before retiring in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Areta Kalogeras always found time to connect with her students through music, teaching each band member to strive for excellence; and
WHEREAS, in March 2015, the family of the late Areta Kalogeras accepted the award for her induction into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Hall of Fame;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby honor the life, memory and legacy of Areta “Rita” Kalogeras, and we extend condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.
