Proclamation naming the month of October 2015 to be “National Disability Employment Awareness Month” in Allegheny County.

Body...

WHEREAS, workplaces welcoming of the talents of all people, including people with disabilities, are a critical part of our efforts to build an inclusive community and strong economy; and

 WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) has assisted in the recruitment, referral and employment of individual candidates with disabilities since 1920; and

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania’s OVR assists people with disabilities prepare and find employment through assessment, counseling and guidance, comprehensive medical, psychological, and allied services, training and job placement; and

WHEREAS, Allegheny County Council is recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month this October to raise awareness about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of people with disabilities;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby proclaim October 2015 as “National Disability Employment Awareness Month” in Allegheny County, and we call upon employers, schools and community organizations in Allegheny County to observe this month with appropriate programs and activities, as we affirm Allegheny County’s commitment to an inclusive community.
