Proclamation congratulating the South Hills Area Council of Governments Technical Rescue Team for earning the 2015 Pennsylvania Rescue Service of the Year Award.

WHEREAS, the South Hills Area Council of Governments (SHACOG) Technical Rescue Team (TRT) has been selected by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Council as the 2015 Pennsylvania Rescue Service of the Year and will be honored at the Pennsylvania Fire and Emergency Service Institute Dinner on November 21, 2015 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and 

 

WHEREAS, the SHACOG Technical Rescue Team was formed in January 2008 by the SHACOG Fire Chiefs Advisory Committee to respond to extreme rescue situations and provide confined space, trench, structural collapse, high angle rope, machinery, tower, flood water and swift water rescue services to the 22 communities of the South Hills of Pittsburgh; and

 

WHEREAS, the SHACOG Technical Rescue Team has more than 60 active members from 32 fire departments and 9 emergency medical services (EMS) agencies,  covering 198 square miles and serving a population of over 300,000; and

 

WHEREAS, members of the SHACOG Technical Rescue Team receive extensive training, have operational and technician level certifications and demonstrate proficiency in special rescue operations, in addition to their firefighter and paramedic educational requirements;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the South Hills Area Council of Governments (SHACOG) Technical Rescue Team (TRT) for earning the 2015 Pennsylvania Rescue Service of the Year Award, and we thank the team for delivering specialized rescue services with a high standard of quality and professionalism, serving as a model for technical rescue teams across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the nation.
