Proclamation declaring Saturday, October 17, 2015 to be “Adeline’s Angels Day” in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, born on August 12, 2011, Adeline O’Laughlin was a beautiful and bright little girl who brought joy and happiness to everyone who came in contact with her. Tragically she died on October 18, 2012 at the age of 14 months; and
WHEREAS, the cause of Adeline’s death remains unanswered. Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) is a name given to a sudden unexplained death of a child over the age of 12 months. It is a diagnosis of exclusion given when no other cause can be found. It occurs in approximately 1.5 out of every 100,000 toddlers; and
WHEREAS, in memory of Adeline, Adeline’s Angels was created, an annual 5K run and 1-mile family fun walk, benefitting the Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) Foundation. This year’s run/walk will take place on Saturday, October 17th at North Park; and
WHEREAS, proceeds from Adeline’s Angels will go toward the SUDC Foundation’s mission of supporting grieving families and funding crucial medical research so that no new families will have to endure the pain of losing a child;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby declare Saturday, October 17, 2015 to be “Adeline’s Angels Day” in Allegheny County.
