Proclamation congratulating the Modernette Baton Corps of South Park for winning four gold medals in the National Baton Twirling Association 2015 America’s Youth On Parade.

WHEREAS, from July 21-27, 2015, the Modernette Baton Corps, of the Ruby Daugherty and Sherry School of Dance in South Park, Pennsylvania, participated in the National Baton Twirling Association (NBTA) national championship competition known as “America’s Youth On Parade” (AYOP) held annually at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1959, the Modernettes compete in a division called Show Corps with Props, an intricate balance of twirling, dancing, and integrating props to support a specific theme; and
WHEREAS, under the guidance of director Sherry Vignoli Parisi, the Juvenile and Senior Modernette Corps won the championship in every event they entered; and
WHEREAS, the Modernettes earned the title of 2015 Grand World Champion for Show Corps with Props;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Modernette Baton Corps for winning four gold medals in the 2015 America’s Youth On Parade, and we recognize the Corps for its outstanding twirling, teamwork, dance, and showmanship bringing prestige to Allegheny County.
