Proclamation honoring Mt. Lebanon High School senior Grace Tandon for her chart topping pop song “Hide Away.”

WHEREAS, Grace Tandon, a 16-year-old Mount Lebanon High School senior, is a singer-songwriter from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that adopted the stage name ‘Daya’ which is the Hindi translation of her name, Grace; and
WHEREAS, Daya released her self-titled debut EP on September 4, 2015 which includes six tracks including the hit song “Hide Away.” The single, “Hide Away,” has been as high as No. 24 on the U.S. Top 40 chart and as of October 2015, the lyric video has reached over one million views. There are over 100 American radio stations giving “Hide Away” air play; and
WHEREAS, Daya studied classical piano at age 3, followed by jazz piano at age 11, and also plays the guitar, ukulele, and saxophone. From musical theatre to singer-songwriter sessions, Daya has formed a deep passion for creating and performing music; and
WHEREAS, Daya has been touring the nation to promote her music, and on August 21, 2015, she appeared on the “Today Show” as Artist of the Month. Daya will perform in the 96.1 KISS Halloween Show along with Icona Pop, Tori Kelly, and Silento at Stage AE on Pittsburgh’s North Shore on Halloween Night;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Grace Tandon aka Daya for her chart topping song “Hide Away,” her artistic contributions and for being an ambassador for Pittsburgh around the world.
