Proclamation congratulating Mr. Clarence Hopson for being inducted into the Saint Francis University Athletics 2015 Hall of Fame and the Pittsburgh City League 2015 Hall of Fame for his decorated career playing men’s basketball.

WHEREAS, on August 8, 2015, Clarence Hopson (Men’s Basketball) was inducted into the Saint Francis University Athletics Hall of Fame, and on October 17, 2015, Clarence was inducted into the Pittsburgh City League High School All-Sports Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Clarence Hopson starred for Schenley High School boys’ basketball team in the late 1960s. He received 50 scholarship offers and chose Saint Francis University; and
WHEREAS, Clarence Hopson was one of the best men’s basketball players at St. Francis University during the 1970s. He shot over 50 percent for his entire tenure and ranks 23rd on the St. Francis University men’s basketball scoring list with 1,148 points. He is one of just 39 players in history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. He led the team in scoring and rebounding during both the 1972-73 and 1973-74 seasons. The 1973-1974 team earned wins over Georgetown and Creighton. Clarence averaged 14.9 points-per-game, including a career-high 16.2 points-per-game during the 1971-72 campaign. That same season, he connected on 59 percent of his shots, a career high; and
WHEREAS, Clarence graduated from St. Francis University in 1974 with degrees in elementary education and history. The Washington Bullets drafted Clarence, and he played for about a year in the NBA, before traveling to the Netherlands and playing four years professionally there. He eventually returned to Pittsburgh and taught in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. In 1980, he joined the Allegheny County Parks Department, and today, Clarence is the Deputy Director of the Parks Department;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Clarence Hopson for being inducted into the St. Francis University Athletic...
