Proclamation congratulating Ms. Cynthia Richey upon the occasion of her retirement after 32 years of service to the Mt. Lebanon Public Library.

WHEREAS, we are here today to express our appreciation to Cynthia K. Richey and honor her for her distinguished 32-year career with the Mt. Lebanon Public Library and dedicated service to the residents of Mt. Lebanon and Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, Cynthia began her career as a Children’s Librarian at Pleasant Hills Public Library and at the Squirrel Hill Branch of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. She joined the Mt. Lebanon Public Library in 1983 as Head of Children’s Services and became the Director of the Mt. Lebanon Public Library in September 1996; and
WHEREAS, these years of service have been marked by exemplary dedication to the best interests of the community, and Cynthia has worked constantly for the betterment of the Mt. Lebanon Public Library, which contributes to the intellectual, educational, informational, recreational and cultural resources of the community; and
WHEREAS, Cynthia has served as President of the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, and President of the Pennsylvania Library Association. She has served on numerous boards and committees, with six years on the Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA) Board of Directors, including two years as Vice President of the Board, and as Chair of the first ACLA Library Standards Committee; and
WHEREAS, among her many notable achievements, Cynthia was named an Honorary Life Member (1993) of the Pennsylvania PTA for her work in bringing children, books, schools, and libraries together. She is the recipient of the Association of Library Service to Children Distinguished Service Award (2013) and the Pennsylvania Library Association Distinguished Service Award (2005).
