Proclamation congratulating Ocie L. Paige for being inducted into the McKeesport Area High School Hall of Fame on October 10, 2015.

WHEREAS, Ocie L. Paige has led a life of service to his country and community. He joined the United States Army to pursue his dream of seeing the world and for 20 years he did just that, serving in Korea, Europe and Vietnam, where he completed two tours; and
WHEREAS, Ocie became an Army recruiter for the last five years of his military career, a post that brought him home to McKeesport and Pittsburgh. He retired from the service at the relatively young age of 40, earning the Bronze Star, Accommodation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and a Meritorious Service Medal; and
WHEREAS, The desire to reside in McKeesport and become active in the community led him to seek a seat on the McKeesport Area School Board and then to become the first African-American president of that board. He also became active in the local N.A.A.C.P. chapter, rising to the presidency, a post he continues; and
WHEREAS, Ocie has earned numerous commendations from local, county and state leaders for his community involvement. He enjoys working with young people, helping them find their path in life so they can fulfill their roles as leaders of tomorrow. His life stands as a “shining example” of what they can become if they work hard and reach for the stars to achieve their goals, his friends say;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Mr. Ocie L. Paige for being inducted into the 2015 Hall of Fame Class for McKeesport Area High School’s Hall of Fame.
