Proclamation congratulating the Zionist Organization of America Pittsburgh District 2015 Awardees.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, on November 4, 2015, the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) Pittsburgh District will honor four individuals for their dedication to the community, the Jewish people, and the State of Israel; and

WHEREAS, Drs. Tova and Joel Weinberg are the recipients of the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award. Drs. Tova and Joel Weinberg have been active throughout the Jewish community, serving on the boards of the Jewish Chronicle, Federation, Kollel, and Congregation Poale Zedeck. Although they spend more time each year in Israel, they continue to serve the Jewish community in Pittsburgh. Tova developed a knack for matchmaking, and in 37 years, has stopped counting after 250 successful matches; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Andy “Hirsh” Dlinn is the recipient of the 2015 Ivan and Natalie Novick Community Leadership Award.  Mr. Dlinn has been active in Pittsburgh for over 20 years, and he has served the Lubavitch Center, Rotary Club of Pittsburgh, Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition, and Yeshiva Schools. Mr. Dlinn founded the Squirrel Hill Citizens Patrol Squad. He is a longtime ZOA board member and a lifetime member of the Congregation Poale Zedeck board; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Julie Paris is the recipient of the 2015 Israel Service Award. Ms. Paris enriched her Jewish heritage and identity through education. She has worked as a professional for the Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh office of the Jewish National Fund. Ms. Paris has planned numerous missions to Israel and she has volunteered with Community Day School, Hadassah, Friendship Circle, and ZOA;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) Pittsburgh District 2015 Awardees, and we thank each honoree for serving the community through their work, deed and many civic involvements.
