This Certificate of Recognition is awarded to the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner, Forensic Science Laboratory Division, Toxicology Section for meeting the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) conditions and level requirements and earning recertification in October 2015 from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The recertification signifies that the Toxicology Section has met recognized standards and demonstrated scientific excellence. Toxicological analyses are performed on blood and urine specimens submitted by law enforcement agencies to determine the presence of ethanol and other drugs which may modify human performance. Typically, the Toxicology Section processes 2,500 driving under the influence (DUI) cases each year. According to a recent study by the Forensic Science Initiative at West Virginia University, the Allegheny County crime lab is one of the best lab’s in the world. We congratulate the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner, Forensic Science Laboratory, Toxicology Section for earning recertification from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and we thank the staff for providing a vital public service through the delivery of high quality professional forensic and laboratory services to the citizens of Allegheny County.
