Proclamation thanking Mr. Cliff Flegal for his 50 years as the master of ceremonies for the City of McKeesport’s Pearl Harbor commemoration.

WHEREAS, on Sunday, December 7, 2015 at The Palisades in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, World War II Navy Veteran Cliff Flegal, Commander of AMVETS Post 8, will serve for the 50th time as the master of ceremonies for McKeesport’s Pearl Harbor commemoration; and

 

WHEREAS, December 7, 2015, marks the 74th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, an event which precipitated the United States’ entry into World War II; and

 

WHEREAS, more than 2,400 military and civilian lives were lost during the 110-minute attack which began at 7:55 a.m. on December 7, 1941; and

 

WHEREAS, during the attack, 19 ships of the United States Pacific Fleet were sunk or damaged and 188 United States aircraft were destroyed; and

 

WHEREAS, the people of Allegheny County recognize the bravery of those who lost their lives or suffered injuries on that day of infamy, and we thank the City of McKeesport for ensuring that the many sacrifices of that day are not forgotten; 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby commemorate December 7, 2015 as “Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day” in Allegheny County, and we thank Cliff Flegal for his dedicated service to our country and for his 50 years as the master of ceremonies for McKeesport’s Pearl Harbor commemoration.
