Proclamation thanking Covestro and Greenlight for Girls for inspiring young girls to become the next generation of creative and innovative scientists and naming Wednesday, February 3, 2016 to be “Covestro Greenlight for Girls Day” in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, the first Covestro Greenlight for Girls, a free event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will take place at the Carnegie Science Center on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, for girls aged 10 to 15; and
WHEREAS, over 100 seventh and eighth grade girls from local schools have been invited to participate in an interactive, hands-on, exploration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM); and
WHEREAS, each participant will have the opportunity to attend two of their favorite workshops, plus a workshop called “Innovations with Covestro” FUNLAB led by Covestro professionals and scientists; and
WHEREAS, headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, Greenlight for Girls is an international organization dedicated to inspire girls of all ages and backgrounds to pursue STEM subjects by introducing them to the world of science in fun and exciting ways, and Covestro is a world-leading supplier of high-tech polymer materials headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby thank Covestro and Greenlight for Girls for inspiring young girls to be the next generation of creative and innovative scientists, and we hereby declare Wednesday, February 3, 2016 to be “Covestro Greenlight for Girls Day” in Allegheny County.
