Proclamation recognizing the Canine Companions for Independence and disability awareness event on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, on Friday, February 5, 2016, the Children’s Advocacy Advisory Network will host a disability awareness event at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC at the John G. Rangos Sr. Research Center; and

 

WHEREAS, the event will discuss the community’s awareness of the vital importance of allowing service dogs on the campuses of colleges and universities and in public workplaces; and

 

WHEREAS, Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships; and

 

WHEREAS, a representative from Canine Companions, along with two individuals that obtained a service dog from the national organization, will discuss the benefits of using a service dog in the home and in the community;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby thank the Children’s Advocacy Advisory Network for sponsoring the Canine Companions and disability awareness event and for helping disabled individuals become independent and celebrating individuals for their abilities.
