Proclamation congratulating The Honorable Robert C. Gallo upon the occasion of his retirement after 26 years of dedicated service to Allegheny County.

Body...

WHEREAS, throughout the history of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, talented officials who possess great knowledge and determination exhibit exemplary leadership in elected positions and contribute invaluably to our communities, our country and our world; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert C. Gallo, son of Italian immigrants and the youngest of five children, became the first person in his family to pursue a college degree. Prior to earning a bachelor’s degree in 1968 from the University of Dayton, Judge Gallo worked in the steel mill in his hometown of the Borough of Sharpsburg until the mill closed. He married his beloved, late wife, Violet and the couple had two sons, Robert C. Gallo II and Charles C. Gallo, who both became attorneys; and

WHEREAS, Judge Gallo was appointed as a Regional Director for the Allegheny County Office of Economic Opportunity and served six terms as a Sharpsburg Borough Councilman. He later went to work for an attorney while studying for the bar examination, which he passed on his first attempt. Judge Gallo became the last person in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to pass the bar exam without attending law school; and

WHEREAS, from 1974 to 1989, Judge Gallo worked in private practice, specializing in employment law, until November 1989, when he was elected to serve as an Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas judge. Since his election in 1989, Judge Gallo has presided over thousands of cases in criminal and civil courts, treating all of the parties who have appeared before him with fairness and respect. Judge Gallo is affectionately known as ‘the people’s judge’ which is a testament to his excellent judicial temperament; and
