Proclamation naming February 1-29, 2016 as “Career and Technical Education Month” in Allegheny County.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, the month of February has been designated Career and Technical Education Month® by the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) with the 2016 theme of Opportunities for Career Success; and

WHEREAS, Career and Technical Education provides students with a pathway for postsecondary education and workplace readiness and is the foundation of a strong, well-educated workforce, which fosters productivity in business and industry and contributes to Allegheny County, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and our nation’s leadership in the international marketplace; and

WHEREAS, students in Career and Technical Education programs participate in authentic, meaningful experiences that improve the quality of their education and increase student engagement and achievement; and

WHEREAS, Career and Technical Education offers individuals lifelong opportunities to learn new skills that provide them with more career choices, expanded earning potential, and greater job satisfaction; and

WHEREAS, the cooperative and ever-increasing efforts between career and technical educators, and representatives of business and industry stimulate the growth and vitality of our national and local economy by preparing students for careers in high-demand, high-wage and highly technologically-skilled areas in a global economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize February 1-29, 2016 as Career and Technical Education Month in Allegheny County, and we urge all citizens of Allegheny County to become familiar with the services and benefits offered by the career and technical education programs in our community.
