Proclamations recognizing National Commander Dale Barnett and Department Commander E. Michael Stelacio for being honored by the Springdale American Legion, Post 764.

 

Body...

 

                     WHEREAS, Allegheny County Council welcomes American Legion National Commander Dale Barnett upon the momentous occasion of his visit to Springdale American Legion Post 764 on March 23, 2016; and

                     

WHEREAS, Commander Barnett graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served as an Army infantry officer from 1974-1996, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He served from 1990 to 1991 as the battalion executive officer of the 2nd Battalion, 18th Infantry in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. His decorations include The Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (two awards), Kuwait Liberation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge and Pathfinder Badge; and

 

WHEREAS, Commander Barnett earned an International Relations/Public Affairs degree at West Point, a Masters of Business Administration from Boston University, and he graduated from Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. After leaving the military, Mr. Barnett taught high school social studies and coached basketball, baseball and cross-country; and

 

WHEREAS, a member of the American Legion Post 105 in Fayetteville, Georgia, Commander Barnett served the American Legion at every level, including Department Commander Georgia from 2007-2008. On September 3, 2015, in Baltimore, Maryland, Commander Barnett was elected National Commander of the 2.4 million-member American Legion during the 97th National Convention of America’s largest veterans’ organization;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby extend our warmest welcome to Dale Barnett, National Commander of The American Legion, and we thank him for his outstanding service and exceptional leadership benefitting our Nation’s service members, veterans and their families.   

 

 

 

                     WHEREAS, Allegheny County Council welcomes American Legion Department Commander Pennsylvania E. Michael Stelacio upon the momentous occasion of his visit to Springdale American Legion Post 764 on March 23, 2016; and

                     

WHEREAS, E. Michael Stelacio served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967. He was stationed at Fort Shafter in Honolulu, Hawaii as part of the 524th MP Company and the Hawaiian Armed Services Police “HASP”; and

 

WHEREAS, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Commander Stelacio served as a detective and special investigator for the Philadelphia Police Department from 1965-1990, and as a registered nurse at various hospitals and offices from 1991-2015. He was also a self-employed private investigator from 2001-2012; and

 

WHEREAS, Commander Stelacio has been a member of the American Legion Post 832, Crest Lawn Memorial, in Philadelphia for 35 years. He served as Post Commander from 2007-2008, Post Vice Commander in 2006, Post Finance Officer from 2012-2014 and Post Historian from 2014-2015. He has held the Department offices of 5th District Commander from 2008-2010, Eastern Vice Commander from 2011-2012 and Department Commander from 2015-2016; and

 

WHEREAS, Commander Stelacio has also served on numerous Department Committees including Keystone Boys State, Oratorical Committee and the Housing for Homeless Veterans Corporation;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby extend our warmest welcome to E. Michael Stelacio, American Legion Department Commander Pennsylvania, and we thank him for his outstanding service and exceptional leadership benefitting our Nation’s service members, veterans and their families.
