Proclamation congratulating the Community College of Allegheny County upon the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) was founded in 1966 and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016; and

 

WHEREAS, since its founding in 1966, CCAC has embraced the concept of providing affordable access to quality higher education and has been the gateway to a more fulfilled and prosperous future, offering an avenue to a college education oftentimes not otherwise available; and

 

WHEREAS, CCAC annually educates nearly 30,000 credit students through more than 150 degree, certificate, diploma and transfer programs and offers thousands of students access to noncredit and workforce development courses; and

 

WHEREAS, CCAC’s quality programs enable students to transfer credits to approximately 500 colleges and universities and support regional workforce needs with accessible instruction available day, evening, weekend and online in Allegheny County and beyond; and

 

WHEREAS, CCAC has contributed greatly to the economic development and quality of life in our community. CCAC returns $6.67 for every dollar Allegheny County invests in the college; and

 

WHEREAS, CCAC plays an important role in bringing together education, business and industry, the nonprofit sector, government and other key stakeholders in order to foster community-led initiatives that improve the quality of life for all our residents; and

 

WHEREAS, CCAC is one of the nation’s leading two-year postsecondary educational institutions and a point of pride for our entire community;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Community College of Allegheny County on its 50th anniversary, express its appreciation for the many contributions CCAC has made to our county, and affirm our commitment to a continuing partnership with the college for the future of our students and residents.
