Proclamations awarded to the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame 2016 honorees.

WHEREAS, the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame (NIASHF) was founded as a non-profit, educational institution in 1977 dedicated to preserving and promoting the history and heritage of Italian American athletes who have made lasting contributions to a wide array of sports; and

WHEREAS, in 1986, the Pittsburgh Chapter was founded and has inducted over 100 Italian American athletes from the greater Pittsburgh area; some nationally-known and others amateurs who have made an impact on the local sporting scene; and

WHEREAS, each year the Pittsburgh Chapter awards scholarships to area high school students in need that have demonstrated high academic achievement and athletic ability; In the last 30 years, the NIASHF has awarded over 140 scholarships to high school seniors in Western Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, on Sunday, April 10, 2016, the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame will be hosting its 30th Annual Awards and Scholarship Banquet at the Westin Convention Hotel and will honor the following individuals:

Man of the Year, Anthony W. Accamando, Jr.; Dominic T. Roppa Award, Dennis Sabatini; Dan Marino Sr. Organized Labor Award, Ralph Sicuro; Frank A. Santamaria Lifetime Achievement, Joseph Femiani (posthumous); Male Athlete of the Year, Tim Vecchio; Female Athlete of the Year, Maddi Sgattoni; Joseph B. Natoli Community Achievement, Salvatore (Sal) Patitucci; Coach of the Year, Claudio Reilsono; Pittsburgh Legend, Sister Linda Yankoski, CSFN, EdD; Legal Professional of the Year, Honorable Guido A. DeAngelis; Second Wind, James Conner; Hall of Fame Inductee, Bill Narduzzi (posthumous); Hall of Fame Inductee, Raymond Cappelli;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Italian American Sports Hall of ...
