WHEREAS, in April, the nation celebrates National Public Health Week to recognize the important role that health professionals play in creating a brighter tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, since 1957, the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) has worked to ensure all residents have the opportunity to lead a healthy life, empowered communities with the tools, knowledge and resources to make a difference, and encouraged individuals to take charge of their health, by promoting prevention and health equity in the community; and
WHEREAS, the Allegheny County Health Department is committed to ensuring that families are healthy from the start, and its extensive and effective collaboration among a wide range of public and private sector partners will help Allegheny County’s next generation be healthier than the one before; and
WHEREAS, on April 4, 2016, Dr. Karen Hacker, Director of the Allegheny County Health Department, hosted Public Health 3.0, an initiative led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) in which local public health advocates work across sectors to improve the health of their communities. Under Dr. Karen Hacker’s leadership, Allegheny County is the first, among a handful of sites, to serve as a national model for this new era of public health; and
WHEREAS, this year’s theme, Healthiest Nation 2030, reminds us all of the collective effort needed to make the United States healthier by improving our own health and safety as well as that of our neighbors;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize and thank Dr. Karen Hacker for working collaboratively to improve health outcomes and advance health equity in our...
