Proclamation congratulating the Bethel Park Public Library upon the occasion of its 60th Anniversary.
Body...
WHEREAS, in 1952, the Countryside Book Club, a group of civic-minded residents, responding to the needs of a young and growing community, met with the objective of establishing the first public library in Bethel Park; and
WHEREAS, in October 1955, the Bethel Park Public Library opened in the basement of the Bethel Grade School and moved to its current location at 5100 West Library Avenue in 1967; and
WHEREAS, the Bethel Park Public Library provides access to books, materials, and technology which foster a love of reading, promote literacy, encourage economic growth and connect citizens in a digital world; and
WHEREAS, the Bethel Park Public Library is a proud member of the Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA), a federated library system serving all residents of Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, the Bethel Park Public Library is an innovator of many award-winning services and programs that help support and enrich the lives of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, the Bethel Park Public Library plays an integral part in the intellectual, educational, and recreational health and well-being of our residents through its mission to provide services to inform, inspire and enrich the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize and congratulate the Bethel Park Public Library upon the occasion of its 60th Anniversary, and we extend sincere gratitude to its trustees, staff, friends and volunteers, past and present, for their accomplishments, commitment, and dedication to the Municipality of Bethel Park and its residents.
