Proclamation declaring Thursday, April 28, 2016 to be “Workers Memorial Day” in Allegheny County.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, workplace injuries and occupational diseases impact millions of American workers every year; and

 

WHEREAS, tens of thousands of American workers are killed while tens of thousands more are permanently disabled every year as a result of workplace injuries and occupational disease; and

 

WHEREAS, concerned Americans are determined to prevent these tragedies through renewed efforts to seek stronger safety and health protections, better standards and enforcement and fair and just compensation for American workers; and

 

WHEREAS, observing Workers Memorial Day on April 28, as a day to remember these victims of workplace injuries and disease is an important part of that renewed effort to rededicate ourselves to improving safety and health in every American workplace; and

 

WHEREAS, the theme of this year’s Workers Memorial Day is “Working for Safe Jobs” and we affirm everyone’s right to a safe workplace;    

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby declare Thursday, April 28, 2016 to be “Workers Memorial Day” in Allegheny County, and we recognize and honor all workers killed, injured and disabled on the job, thank them for their service and offer sympathy to their families and loved ones.
